Julian De Zotti is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a double major in Dramatic Arts and U.S. Foreign Policy. He has been working in the theatre as a creator and performer for over 15 years – as Artistic Producer of The Original Norwegian theatre company. The company collaborated with strategic partners using the art of theatre to speak creatively and truthfully about urgent issues affecting his community. He wrote and directed their hit plays HALF EMPTY & GUNS & ROSES, the latter involving local at-risk youth from Breakaway Addiction Services in Toronto.
Julian was also a co-creator and performer of the Dora Award (the Canadian Tony) nominated stage adaptations of RASHOMON and William Faulkner's AS I LAY DYING that toured across Canada.
By the time he was 25 he had co-written, co-produced and starred in the Canadian independent feature film NEW YEAR, winning Best Feature Film at the Clearwater Film Festival. It is currently available on Amazon and itunes through The Orchard.
Julian ventured into the digital space with his series WHATEVER, LINDA - inspired by the women who worked for Bernie Madoff - as co-creator, writer and showrunner in 2015. The series has played over twenty web festivals and won several Best Drama Series awards including the IAWTV Awards. He is currently working alongside EP and ORPHAN BLACK creator Graeme Manson to adapt the series for Bell Media Television in Canada, after a recent option by The Mark Gordon Company.
He is a recipient of the New Discovery Award from the British Independent Series Awards, a NOW Magazine Top Ten Artist To Watch, and a panelist for the likes of SXSW, VIFF, and Creative Lab Hawaii.
With his storytelling, Julian endeavours to simultaneously hold the mirror up to nature and provide catharsis using a darkly comic lens.
